All About Ally Brown

Ally Brown is one of the most sought-after violinists in Central New York—and for good reason. Her diverse experience and genre-spanning versatility quickly make her a fan favorite at events and on projects.

Classically trained, Ally began her career rooted in classical music and education. She supported school music programs through specialty retailers, ran her own wedding quartet, performed with orchestras and ensembles, and operated a private lesson studio. As her reputation grew, so did her passion for modern music, leading her to explore genres beyond classical and dive into the local music scene.

Ally has recorded violin, fiddle, and electric violin parts for local artists including Joe “Just Joe” Altier (Got Joe?, So The Story Goes…), Mark Doyle (Guitar Noir, Guitar Noir II), and Mira Grimm (Restless Soul). Over the years, Ally has had the pleasure to perform with a number of talented musicians and groups including The Ditch Daisies, Opus Black String Quartet, The Jimmy James Gang, The Connoisseurs, The Stan Colella Orchestra, and members of the TransSiberian Orchestra, to name a few.

Today, Ally is the fiddle player for Bill Ali & Against The Grain, Ali & Ally, and often appears with their brother modern-rock band Scars n’ Stripes. In addition to live band and recording work, she also curates and markets a solo violin act for weddings and events.

In late 2018, during a period of intense focus and momentum in her career, Ally developed Occipital and Trigeminal neuralgias, painful nerve conditions originating in her neck caused by an intense rehearsal schedule, poor posture, and mindless technique. Facing daily migraines, light sensitivity, and severe facial pain, it was uncertain if she’d ever perform again. But after years of treatment and recovery, Ally now manages her neuralgia without medication, using custom harnesses to reduce strain while performing. She credits yoga, improved technique, and posture for her recovery and uses her platform to raise awareness about repetitive motion injuries, nerve, skeletal, & muscle health, as well as mental well-being for musicians and artists.
